Short Biography

Dr. Jordan Cohen joined the UBC Department of Psychiatry as a Clinical Associate Professor in 2016, having previously served as a clinical faculty member in Department of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary. There, he served in a number of key leadership roles, including as the Director of Student Affairs for the Cumming School of Medicine, then as the Postgraduate Psychiatry Program Director for a seven-year term. Externally, he served as the president of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry section for the Alberta Medical Association. Soon after his arrival at UBC, Dr. Cohen was appointed as the PGE Discipline Specific Site Leader (DSSL) at Lion’s Gate Hospital, and in 2022 was appointed as the Associate Head for Postgraduate Education and CPD.  Dr. Cohen holds an FRCPC Subspecialty Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and is also a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Clinical Focus

Inpatient treatment of adolescents with concurrent disorders (substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders).

Awards and Honours

  • Awarded the Canadian Medical Association’s Physician Misericordia Award (presented at the CMA conference in Vancouver, British Columbia August 23, 2016) recognizing lifetime achievement in supporting physician colleagues, enhancing overall health and well-being for physicians on both a personal and professional level, especially during times of crisis.
  • Child and Adolescent Community Clinic (Dr. Cohen as the clinic’s medical director/lead) awarded the Department of Psychiatry’s Transformational Award for Child and Adolescent Addictions and Mental Health Programs. October 2015.
  • Professional Association of Residents of Alberta (PARA) Well-being Award. Awarded to one faculty member per year from each of the 2 medical schools in Alberta who demonstrates a strong support of resident well-being. July 2011.
  • Awarded the Canadian Medical Association’s CMA Award for Young Leaders (Early Career Physician) 2009 (presented at annual meeting in August Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). Awarded to only one physician throughout Canada annually.
  • The Canadian Association of Interns and Residents (CAIR), Derek Puddester Resident Wellbeing Award (2006). Awarded to an individual, group or organization that made the greatest contribution to Resident wellbeing in Canada.
  • Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA-COPCE) award for Most Outstanding Continuing Education Activity in Psychiatry in Canada (academic setting) (2006).
