IN THE SPOTLIGHT: JANEL CASEY
Meet Dr. Janel Casey, a Clinical Associate Professor who serves as the Department Head of Psychiatry at Royal Columbian Hospital and as Regional Division Head for Adult Psychiatry for Fraser Health. She has been a member of the Department since 2012.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: STEVEN ESAU
Dr. Steven Esau is a Clinical Instructor, a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and the Director of Operations – Fraser East for Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS). He is currently working with the Centre for Health Evaluation & Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS) on a Fraser East Overdose Response Research Study.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ALLAN KWAN
Mr. Allan Kwan is our Information Systems Specialist, and in his role provides front-line IT support to our members and is responsible for maintaining the Department’s computer systems and network infrastructure. He has been a member of our core administrative team since 2004.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: JOANNE SINAI
Dr. Joanne Sinai is a Clinical Associate Professor and a psychiatrist with the Urgent Short Term Assessment and Treatment (USTAT) team in Victoria. She previously served as the Associate Program Director for Curriculum for our Postgraduate Residency Program, and has been a member of the Department since 2007.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ISABEL BESTARD LORIGADOS
Ms. Isabel Bestard Lorigados is a PhD Candidate in the UBC Graduate Program in Neuroscience and a trainee in Alzheimer’s research in the Song Lab. She has been a member of the Department since 2019.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: KYNA NG
Ms. Ng is our Education Coordinator, providing support to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry Postgraduate Subspecialty Programs (SSP). She joined the UBC Department of Psychiatry’s administration team in 2022.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ADEEB MALAS
Dr. Malas is a second-year resident in the Fraser Track of UBC Psychiatry’s Postgraduate Residency Program. He completed his undergraduate medical education in the UBC Southern Medical Program in the BC Interior in 2022.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: FAIZA HAMEER
Dr. Hameer is a Psychiatrist at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) and administratively, acts as the medical lead for emergency psychiatry for the Fraser Health Psychiatry program. She joined the UBC Department of Psychiatry as a Clinical Instructor in 2016, and in 2017 was appointed as the Assistant Program Director for Fraser and the Discipline Specific Site leader (DSSL) at RCH for the Postgraduate Education Program.
